Find your History future at UCM

When you earn a degree from UCM鈥檚 Department of History, you鈥檒l enjoy engaging, student-centered courses supported by an active community:

  • Digital History: Move beyond lectures and note-taking. Jump into history with virtual reality projects, role-playing games and our Historic Missouri app. You鈥檒l not only get to experience living history, but also help to create it by adding content to the app as well as other public-facing websites.
  • Real-world experience: In addition to class projects, you鈥檒l have chances to participate in internships with local history museums, historical societies and different historical sites around the region. You may even earn an exclusive internship with the Missouri State Archives on UCM鈥檚 Warrensburg campus. These opportunities may allow you to learn the fundamentals of digital archiving, researching, writing and public education as you make industry connections and build an impressive resume.
  • Community: As a member of UCM鈥檚 Department of History, you鈥檒l be part of an ever-growing family of scholars, peers and alumni committed to collaborating and helping each other reach new levels of greatness every day. Make new friends, attend game nights and go on field trips in our student-run History Club. We also host talks from distinguished speakers.

What can you do with a degree in one of UCM鈥檚 History programs?

Unlike many degrees that prepare you for a single field or discipline, the study of history provides you with expertise and essential skills that are needed in nearly every industry. Employers and universities across the globe look for candidates with the ability to think critically, research, communicate effectively and work independently or in a group. Our graduates are in high demand thanks to their mastery of these fundamental skills.

Our focus on digital history also means that you鈥檒l have the chance to build websites and write persuasive and engaging pieces that reach a broad audience. These are vital skills in fields such as technology and marketing.

Many of our students go on to prestigious graduate and doctoral programs to study law, history, library science, education and museum studies. Our graduates also go on to successful careers in business, government and journalism.
