In an increasingly digital world, now is an exciting time to launch a digital media career. Yet, to land the career you want, you must be able to do more than simply create media. You must produce professional and quality media that makes a difference for your employer or clients. Get hands on with equipment and in facilities that are among the best in the state. Work with UCM faculty who are also active industry professionals and experts in their respective fields. Together, we’ll focus on writing, editing, producing and publishing digital media. 

In the process, you’ll learn to think on your feet while quickly adapting to the ever-evolving digital media environment in exciting fields such as sports, live TV studio, radio, journalism and digital cinema production. 

Join us at UCM’s Warrensburg campus for in-person instruction. We also offer some courses online and in a hybrid format for greater flexibility.

What you will study

No matter your career path, all Digital Media Production majors start with foundational courses that emphasize media convergence, bringing together audio, video and film. With a focus in these areas, you’ll develop sought-after skills that give you an edge across today’s job market. Then, you’ll choose one of the following areas and take a deep dive into its content and production:

An internship or supervised application of your field of study provides an opportunity to gain real-world skills that help ensure you’ll be ready for your career in digital media production. 

The Senior Capstone Seminar provides the opportunity to create your online portfolio and demo reel, so you’re prepared to compete in the job market. These are made of your best work produced in UCM classes, which may include:

  • Corporate and Freelance Production for work on client-based productions from start to finish
  • Narrative Production or Cinematography, during which you’ll make short films or original music videos
  • Sports Broadcasting for which you’ll stream UCM sports
  • Multimedia News Storytelling, where you’ll report stories on the web and across different media
  • Radio Production for production of original radio shows and other content

  • Campus media: Apply your skills or even intern at UCM’s award-winning campus news outlet (Muleskinner), online radio station (The Beat), TV station (CTV) and PBS affiliate (KMOS).
  • Collaboration opportunities: Network with other students through the Media Creators Association. Participate in their 48-hour film festivals and workshops in collaboration with the School of Visual and Performing Arts.
  • Access to modern equipment and facilities: Benefit from early access to all the latest equipment, including high-end cinema cameras, lighting and audio gear, and state-of-the-art screening rooms and studios. Gain access to a professional broadcasting truck for live-streaming UCM sports.
