UCM students combine their math skills with a wide array of interests to prepare for jobs that rely upon the study and analysis of statistics. Our Ph.D.-level faculty in Statistics and Mathematics are active researchers who will work closely with you to help tailor your coursework to concentrate on sports, health care, finance, education or other areas that interest you, so you鈥檒l hit the ground running following graduation. As a UCM graduate, you may work in fields such as IT, bioanalytics, financial risk assessment or other areas where you鈥檒l conduct research and offer expert analysis using industry-standard software.
UCM Statistics offers two fields of study
- Actuarial Science and Statistics - Statistics Option: UCM鈥檚 undergraduate program in this field helps you develop skills in data modeling and analysis, as well as computer and software. This includes a minor that complements other bachelor鈥檚 degrees in related fields.
- Actuarial Science and Statistics - Statistics Option This master鈥檚 program for the field of Statistics includes a hybrid option with flexible scheduling for graduate students.
As an undergraduate student in your junior year, you can select an option to earn an accelerated master鈥檚 degree at UCM: In just five years, you can graduate with both a BS in Actuarial Science and Statistics and MS degree in Mathematics through the Actuarial Science and Statistics option.

- A dedicated computer lab: Become proficient in using the latest statistical tools, including free, open-source software such as R and Python, as well as the licensed version of SAS programming software.

- Professional networking: Strong relationships among UCM faculty, alumni and employers provide students with valuable connections for summer internships, research, senior projects, career advising and job openings. UCM is part of the Kansas-West Missouri chapter of the American Statistical Association (ASA), through which you鈥檒l attend meetings and activities, such as those hosted by the KU Medical School. Our UCM Statistics Advisory Board offers feedback and suggestions to keep our program 鈥� and our students 鈥� ahead of the curve.
