Dr. Erica Spurgeon has been a dedicated educator in the field of fashion and technology, having earned her Bachelor of Science in Fashion: Clothing and Textiles in Business from the 欧美视频 in 2009. She began her professional journey at Buckle, Inc., where she progressed from assistant store manager to men's merchandise buyer and private label product developer.
In Fall 2015, Erica joined the 欧美视频 as an instructor. She went on to achieve her Master of Science in Educational Technology at UCM in 2017, followed by a Ph.D. in Apparel Merchandising and Design from Iowa State University in 2022. Her research interests encompass retail business strategy, digital design and innovative teaching strategies. In recognition of her exceptional teaching, Erica received the Excellence in Teaching Award for the College of Health, Science and Technology at UCM in 2022, and she was awarded the International Textiles and Apparel Association (ITAA) Joan Laughlin Fellowship for Outstanding Continuing Doctoral Student in 2020.
In January 2024, Dr. Spurgeon was appointed Chair of the School of Industrial Sciences and Technology, where she leads initiatives to enhance educational offerings and promote innovation. She has taught a diverse range of courses, but now focuses particularly on Product Development and Digital Design. In her classroom, she leverages tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, CLO 3D, AI and Extended Reality (XR), including Virtual Reality (VR), to prepare students for the dynamic fashion industry. Through her leadership and teaching, she fosters creativity and equips students with the skills necessary to succeed in a rapidly evolving marketplace.
