Enjoy an evening of entertainment as 欧美视频 (UCM) Theatre and Dance presents 鈥淟ove (Im)Perfectly,鈥� featuring four student-directed one-act plays. 

Performances include 鈥淭he Gulf鈥� by Audrey Cefaly, 鈥淔#cking Art鈥� by Bekah Brunstetter,  鈥淓mergency Contact鈥� by Jake Alexander and 鈥淏oxed In鈥� by Mora V. Harris. These shows will be performed Feb. 6-8 in the Nickerson Black Box Theatre on the first floor of Nickerson Residence Hall. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and curtain is at 7:30 p.m. All of the plays are directed, designed and performed by UCM students.

The first play of the evening, 鈥淭he Gulf,鈥� with direction by Quinn Allen and technical direction by Molly Blackburn, features Kendra (Raegan Weber) and Betty (Alea Ware) as a couple in a strained relationship caused by their own personal troubles. The pair find themselves talking on Betty鈥檚 fishing boat in the Alabama Delta, and the pair realize that they must settle their issues if they want this relationship to sink or swim. 

 

In 鈥淔#cking Art,鈥� Gal (Hannah Vath) visits her childhood friend Art (Ayden Christensen) at the hospital after not seeing each other for a long time due to Art鈥檚 growing illness. Throughout their interaction, they learn how much they both have changed and reflect on the past. Molly Jones provides direction and technical direction.

 

The next play of the evening, 鈥淓mergency Contact,鈥� follows a couple, Julian (Payton Lawrence) and Bryce (Kayla Addison), who go to the hospital late at night because Bryce has injured her leg. They are watched over by a gossipy Nurse (Dmitry Crawford) as they deal with the struggles of who will be the emergency contact. Kyp Bellis provides direction and technical direction.

 

鈥淏oxed In,鈥� with direction by Jake Collins and technical direction by Alyna Mathews, is a window into the life of two brothers who couldn鈥檛 be more different. Tyler (Chris Schilligo), a high schooler, is going through that phase of wonder 鈥� he鈥檚 unsure who he is or what he wants to be. His brother Jerry (Cal Klaus), a mechanic and Tyler鈥檚 only family, thought he knew what he wanted, but when Tyler finally opens up to him, he begins to wonder for himself. 

The production staff includes Stage Manager and Board Operator Anna Fletcher. All student technical directors also served as their show鈥檚 costume, scenic, props and lighting designers. Actors will also function as a run crew for the set of shows. Faculty advisors for 鈥淟ove (Im)Perfectly鈥� are Theatre professors Aaron Scully, Ph.D., and Aleksandra Combs.

Tickets are free for UCM students who show a valid UCM student ID at the door. All other tickets are $1 at the door. The Black Box Theatre has limited seating, so arriving early is encouraged. Parking is available in the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center lot. 

UCM Theatre and Dance has two more productions remaining in the 2024-25 鈥淧erfectly Marvelous鈥� season with 鈥淒r. Seuss鈥檚 The Cat in the Hat鈥� running Feb. 27-March 2 and 鈥淐abaret鈥� running April 11-13 and 17-19 in the Highlander Theatre. This spring, UCM Theatre and Dance will also be part of UCM鈥檚 President鈥檚 Gala, an avenue to celebrate student, faculty and alumni collaboration while raising needed funds to extend the educational benefits and support the mission of the School of Visual and Performing Arts.
