Award-Winning Author鈥檚 Work Brought to Big Screen at the 欧美视频

Recently celebrating its 60th anniversary, the Elliott Student Union will be the site for a free, public presentation and film screening hosted by award-winning author Alexander Weinstein.


Award-winning fiction writer Alexander Weinstein will host a screening of the film "After Yang" at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, in the 欧美视频鈥檚 Elliott Student Union Auditorium, 511 S. Holden St., in Warrensburg. At 5 p.m., UCM will host Weinstein for an author talk, book signing and reception in the Union Atrium. The event is free and open to the public. 

"After Yang," starring Colin Farrell, Jodie Turner-Smith and Justin H. Min, is a critically acclaimed film and recipient of the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize at the Sundance Film Festival; Best Actor for Colin Farrell at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards; and Best Adapted Screenplay at the Boston Society of Film Critics Awards, as well as many more awards and award nominations.

Alexander Weinstein, founder and director of is the author of the short story collections "Universal Love" and "Children of the New World," which was chosen as a "New York Times" Notable Book of the Year, and a best book of the year by NPR and Electric Literature. The film "After Yang" was adapted from Weinstein鈥檚 short story 鈥淪aying Goodbye to Yang.鈥 

Weinstein's books will be available for purchase at the book signing.

The reception, book signing, and film screening are sponsored by the Missouri Arts Council; Pleiades: Literature in Context; the UCM Department of Communication and Digital Media, and the UCM Department of English.
