Season 3 video promo from NETA president Eric Hyyppa.
WARRENSBURG, MO 鈥 Among the public television station professionals honored at a recent
awards gala event in Salt Lake City was producer Christy Millen. For their work on creating a video promoting the third season
of 鈥淢issouri Life,鈥 she and her colleagues received an award and recognition by industry
peers.
The red carpet event, held Jan. 21 in Salt Lake City, opened the 2019 National Educational
Telecommunications Association Conference, an annual gathering of public television
professionals from across the nation. The competition, first organized in 1968, honors
NETA member stations' achievements in community engagement, promotion, instructional
media, and content production.
鈥淓very one of us working in public media today can be proud of the NETA Award winners,鈥
said NETA president Eric Hyyppa. 鈥淲hen you look at the achievements that these projects
represent, making our services relevant and valuable to our communities, you can鈥檛
help but be inspired for the future.鈥
In submitting the promo for consideration, Millen wrote: 鈥淭he intention behind the
spot was to play off the words 鈥渂est of鈥 by showcasing the 鈥渘ot-so-best-of鈥 moments
with our host attempting to say the script from memory on-camera. It was received
well on social media, and remains one of the season鈥檚 favorites amongst our fans.
The series鈥 high production values and content quality have persuaded KCPT in Kansas
City and KETC in St. Louis to share Missouri Life with their audiences as well.鈥
One judge wrote 鈥淭his was a great spot for two reasons: 1.) You brilliantly combined
humor/human fallibility with a behind-the-scenes look at a favorite show. The fact
that this was promoting a Best of show just added to the humor and brought the viewer
in on the joke. 2.) You don't take yourselves seriously. Very nice, and a great twist
on what could have been a rather standard promo.鈥
The 鈥淢issouri Life鈥 series was created by KMOS-TV, the 欧美视频鈥檚
public television station, in collaboration with the publishers of 鈥淢issouri Life
Magazine.鈥 Consisting of 28 programs, the series is available to watch online at kmos.org
or the PBS App available on mobile devices.
In previous years KMOS has received NETA awards for: a video profile of the National
Churchill Museum in Fulton (2014), Special Event and Community Engagement based on
the Event (2012 Kids Day), 鈥淛erry Adams Outdoors 鈥 Kiss the Fish Again鈥 (2011), 鈥淭he
Bacon Brothers-Michael鈥檚 Revenge鈥 (2010). A full list of award recognitions is available
