Forensic Science Minor

For careers in fields ranging from archaeology to biology, chemistry to law enforcement, studying forensic science can be valuable in teaching you how to better analyze scientific data.

At the Å·ÃÀÊÓƵ, our Forensic Science minor provides you with a broad-based introduction to understanding, solving and preventing crime. Throughout your undergraduate studies, you’ll gain a well-balanced foundation of knowledge in human psychology and how it applies to our legal and criminal justice systems, as well as public policy.

What you will study

UCM’s Forensic Science minor offers three unique tracks for students pursuing undergraduate degrees in Biology, Chemistry or Criminal Justice — or you can build a track of your own to help you achieve your career aspirations. 

No matter which track you choose, you can expect our Forensic Science minor to integrate law, science and technology throughout your studies. You’ll build a strong foundation in biology or chemistry as you learn how to uncover and analyze evidence that can be used in criminal or civil cases.

Unique learning opportunities in forensic science

Gaining hands-on experience is at the heart of UCM’s Forensic Science minor. Throughout your studies, you’ll be exposed to various cellular, molecular and histological lab research experiences, as well as field work that involves different approaches to collecting data. 

You can also apply your knowledge and skills through:

  • Internships: If you’re interested in a career as a forensic scientist or technician, an internship will help you stand out. You’ll gain real-world experience and apply what you’ve learned in the classroom while making professional connections in the field.
  • Student activities: Join your fellow classmates from Anthropology, Biology, Chemistry and Criminal Justice programs in some of UCM’s more than 185 clubs and organizations. These opportunities allow you to pursue leadership roles, enjoy new and exciting learning experiences and connect with fellow Forensic Science minors.
