Engineering technologists analyze complex needs and design application-based solutions to meet them. From day one in our accredited program, you’ll engage with real-world engineering projects and learn how to approach the whole problem rather than only parts of it. 

Engineering Technology offers five concentrations

  • Robotics, Automation and Controls: Automated systems are an integral part of modern life, from traffic lights to shipping infrastructure. Learn how to program and optimize these systems for a rewarding, in-demand career across a wide range of industries. 
  • Mechanical Engineering Technology: Turn your love of taking things apart — and putting them back together — into a career in product design by focusing your Engineering Technology program on Mechanical Engineering. Learn how to take an idea from design to reality with hands-on practice in our state-of-the-art labs.
  • Industrial Engineering Technology: Have you always been fascinated by how a thing is made and wondered if it could be made better? Our industrial engineering concentration will turn your keen eye for detail into sought-after job skills to prepare you for management roles at manufacturing or production facilities.
  • Civil Engineering Technology: By concentrating your Engineering Technology studies on civil engineering, you’ll be prepared to make the world a better place, one system at a time. Learn how to design and build the components of efficient, sustainable urban environments. 
  • Engineering Technology Management: Prepare to take a leading role in whatever industry excites you — from nanotechnology to renewable energy to machine learning — with a concentration in Engineering Technology Management at UCM.

Engineering Technology at UCM fosters a collaborative applied learning environment. Our theory-to-application approach helps you build a holistic understanding of engineering technology and how it can be used in real life. Our graduates are equipped to design, develop, test and fabricate products and machines for many industries.

Program Educational Objectives

The graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology will use the knowledge and skills obtained in the program to:

  • Creatively identify, analyze and solve engineering related problems and improve processes in both technical and managerial realms.  
  • Demonstrate mastery of the techniques, skills and modern tools necessary for current engineering technology practices.  
  • Practice effective personal and technical communication in both oral and written forms. 
  • Demonstrate lifelong learning by applying current mathematic, scientific, engineering and technical knowledge to problem solving and by adapting to emerging applications in the engineering technology fields. 
  • Understand and practice professional work habits including a commitment to quality, timeliness, and continuous improvement.  
  • Understand the professional, ethical and social responsibilities of an engineering technologist. 
  • Understand the need for working in teams and demonstrate the ability to effectively work in teams as well as lead teams. 
  • Demonstrate a respect for and knowledge of contemporary professional, societal and global issues. 

Student Outcomes

The student outcomes for the Engineering Technology program are: 

  • an ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;   
  • an ability to design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline;   
  • an ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in broadly-defined technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature;   
  • an ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results to improve processes;   
  • an ability to function effectively as a member as well as a leader on technical teams.   
  • an ability to identify, analyze, and solve broadly-defined engineering technology problems; a commitment to quality, timeliness, and continuous improvement by incorporating new technology and embracing change.
