Artistic Expression Abounds at 2022 MLK Freedom Scholarship Fundraiser
While showcasing artistic expression in many forms, members of the 欧美视频 and the Warrensburg community came together Jan. 18 to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr during the Freedom Scholarship Fundraiser at UCM鈥檚 Elliott Student Union. The theme for the evening event in the Sandra Temple Elliott Ballroom was titled 鈥淟iving the Dream: Live and in Color,鈥� utilizing a new format while pursuing giving opportunities to help fund scholarships for students to attend UCM.

UCM Partners with Air University Associate to Baccalaureate Cooperative to Provide Environmental, Safety, Risk Management Degree Pathways
Members of the United States Air Force who want to further their education have two new pathways to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Environmental, Safety and Risk Management (ESRM) from the 欧美视频. These opportunities are made possible through UCM鈥檚 selection as a partner in the Air University Associate to Baccalaureate Cooperative (AU-ABC) with the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF).

In an event that kicked off the 2022 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration, annual Community Service Awards named for King were presented during a luncheon conducted by the Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce at Matthews-Crawford American Legion Post 131. 欧美视频 Professor Emerita of Business and Social Enterprise Dr. Mary McCord was one of two individuals honored during the brief award ceremony on Jan. 12, which was presented with the theme 鈥淟iving the Dream: Live and In Color.鈥�

Life Design Initiatives Help UCM Students Solve 'Wicked Problems' They May Face in Education, Life and in Career Decisions
While the challenge of getting into college can be stressful, additional anxiety often accompanies a decision overload with students pondering which degree to pursue, and what they want to do with it once they graduate. Through initiatives that have been shared with educators across the United States, the 欧美视频 is helping students tackle these tough decisions and more by incorporating design thinking principles into the student experience. The result of such efforts at UCM is a range of new opportunities from career readiness courses and learning facility upgrades to presentations that introduce this model for solving what researchers have called the 鈥渨icked problems鈥� individuals may face in education, life and in making decisions about careers.

$1M Alumnus Gift to Benefit UCM's College of Education
The 欧美视频 Alumni Foundation is pleased to announce that alumnus Greg Thurman, 鈥�74, and his wife, Carla Thurman, of Franklin, Tennessee, have made a generous gift to the university. The gift of $1 million will fund the renovation of a gymnasium in the 53-year-old Lovinger Building into a state-of-the-art mixed-use educational facility.

With the 2022 theme, 鈥淟iving the Dream: Live and in Color,鈥� the 欧美视频 in January will host a variety of special events on campus and in cooperation with local organizations to honor the legacy of civil rights leader and humanitarian Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The Freedom Scholarship Fundraiser, Community Praise and Worship Service, and the annual Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce Community Service Awards Luncheon are among these special events, in addition to other opportunities at UCM鈥檚 Warrensburg and Lee鈥檚 Summit campuses.

As a way to celebrate the legacy of a great civil rights leader and the relationship between the 欧美视频 and members of the Hispanic and Latino communities in the Kansas City metropolitan area, UCM honored 2021 and 2020 student recipients of Cesar E. Chavez Scholarships during the fall 2021 semester. Kansas City area students who want to further their education through this scholarship are being encouraged to apply for 2022 awards by Feb. 1.

He will begin serving a three-year term in January. Other new members joining the non-profit organization鈥檚 board this winter are Beth Rosemergey and Jason Snodgrass.
